Doug Kennedy
Working out of his Norwich, Vermont office, Doug Kennedy offers a unique and broad range of professional and project experience to his clients. With over 30 years of practice in planning, economics and real estate, Doug’s experience spans: real estate economics and markets; recreational market research; resort planning; fiscal and growth impact assessments as well as experience in housing markets ranging from deeply subsidized to the high end of the scale. More significantly, his broad exposure to project work, in both up and down markets, allows him to provide realistic and strategic advice to his clients both for the present and future. Doug takes a practical approach to real estate market and development issues and is focused on providing analyses and recommendations that allow his clients to make informed decisions regarding development feasibility, marketability and permitting issues.
Doug’s career began in the late 70s with a multi-disciplinary consulting firm active in public and private markets through the northeast. Quickly thrust into the lead role in the firm’s planning department, he managed a number of community development plans in mid-sized New England cities – while getting an introduction to the mountain resort world at several Vermont and New Hampshire resorts.
Recognizing that the revised tax code of the early 80s had substantial implications for real estate development, Doug created a sole consultancy with an emphasis on the application of economic and planning principles to development issues. During this period, Doug built-up a strong practice at northeastern mountain resorts, while remaining active in urban/commercial and affordable housing projects. Doug’s work in the resort industry resulted in his recruitment by Sno.engineering/SE Group in the early 90s, where he was responsible for all of the firm’s activities in the areas of real estate development, market research, economic analyses and socioeconomic impact assessment. In addition, oversaw the firm’s work in the area of resort appraisal and valuation. His scope of work expanded to both North American and international clientele. Doug also served as a Senior Advisor with LandVest from 2003 to early 2009, a multi-faceted firm with expertise in real estate consulting, marketing & sales of residential properties and timberland brokerage and management – he remains an advisor on LandVest projects.
